Kenyon Green: “I can’t wait for this offseason” | Daily Brew
Houston Texans OL Kenyon Green faced some of the toughest inside defensive linemen in the NFL during his rookie campaign. In a test by fire, Green got his first start at left guard in Week 2 at Denver, capping the year with his best showing in Week 18 at Indianapolis.
“I saw him the next day,” general manager Nick Caserio told SportsRadio 610. “He was actually encouraged because I said to him, ‘Look, big man, like you’ve played one of your best games here yesterday. I think he enjoyed that. But I think he had his eyes open to, you know what? Ok, I can play at a good level. I know I’m not regular right now. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I can’t wait to get started, that was the main theme that he kind of expressed.”
In what Caserio describes as a “murder row” of the league’s best defensive tackles, Green clashed with Jeffery Simmons (Titans), Javon Hargrave (Eagles), Dexter Lawrence (Giants) and Jonathan Allen (Commanders) on a four-week period, from weeks 8 to 11.
“I feel like I’ve improved a lot and just, you know, my mental aspect, especially in the game too, against big players throughout the year,” Green said. “Things that I felt like I improved with are my feet, my hand placement is improving. I’m going to keep working on that in the offseason and keep building and being ready for the next year to come.”
Drafted by the Texans with the 15th overall selection, Green had a rocky start to his NFL career. After dealing with a knee issue in the offseason, Green also missed time in the preseason after suffering a concussion.
With one season under his belt, Green is ready to get to work moving into Year 2.
“I can’t wait for this offseason,” Green said. “You know I’ve got a full offseason from injury last year, you know, I had surgery and everything. So I’ve got a full, full offseason that I can, you know , improve and I’m very excited.”
