“You think you’re some Slam stalwart”

Nick Kyrgios continues to smash the internet for his controversial comments. The Aussie mockingly compared the Australian Open men’s bottom quarter to the ATP 250 as several tennis fans slammed him for his disrespectful remarks.

Kyrgios did not participate in the Grand Slam Down Under due to a knee injury. Even without participating, the world No. 21 did not fail to make people talk about him in the tournament and did indeed make the fans talk on Friday.

The Australian took to Twitter to snidely equate bottom quarter players including Andy Murray, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Roberto Bautista Agut to ATP 250 tennis.

“Nice little 250 going,” he said, responding to a tweet on the list of players reaching the bottom quarter. One of these men will be in the #AusOpen semi-finals

In light of the statement, several fans have marked their displeasure with the 27-year-old. One fan compared Kyrgios to Andy Murray, who is among the bottom quarter players, and reflected on the latter’s superiority as they branded the former a ‘clown’.

“Clown as always,” read the tweet.

Kyrgios was again compared to Murray by another fan. They went on to completely disparage the Australian No.1 saying:

“Murray’s got more talent in his hip metal than you [Kyrgios] will never have”

Another fan asked the Aussie if he considers himself ‘a Slam mainstay’.

“You make two quarter-finals in a year and think you’re a Slam mainstay,” they wrote.

One user continued to poke fun at Kyrgios for his rather easy journey to the Wimbledon final last year, writing:

“Says the guy who beat Nakashima Garin and without to reach the Wimby final”

Here are some other fan reactions:

Contempt oozes from you. Absolutely repulsive.
