“I Miss My Son Adam As Well”: NASCAR Veteran’s Touching Post Leads to Outpouring of Love As Hall of Fame Adds To Its Petty Collection

NASCAR will complete its 75th anniversary in 2023, and in those 75 years there have been many great drivers. The sport has seen the Earnhardts, the Frances and many others. But there were none like the Pettys. Four generations of pure racing genius.

The name Petty is arguably the most well-known name in NASCAR history. It’s a legacy that began with Lee Petty and was continued by Richard Petty. Later, Richard’s son Kyle took over, and after him came Adam. Sadly, Adam was killed at the tender age of 20, in an accident in Loudon, New Hampshire.

Overall, the Pettys have 10 Cup Series titles to their name (3 for Lee and 7 for Richard), and countless race wins to go with that. Additionally, the Petty name has also been involved in team ownership for decades, racking up a number of wins there as well.

There is no denying that the Petty name will always remain an intrinsic part of the sport. However, the name’s involvement in the sport has recently taken a major hit.

Petty GMS—the only form of Petty remaining in the Cup Series—was renamed. It became Legacy Motor Club earlier this month. With Jimmie Johnson joining the owners table, management felt it was time to let the future take over. While there was a section of fans who didn’t approve, others applauded the change.

Of course, seeing Petty’s name would always have been a special way to appreciate their legacy in the sport. But it’s not like people forget the family’s countless accomplishments just because of a name change. They are well etched in the history of NASCAR.

NASCAR fans shed tears after seeing this

In some sports, it is the jersey number that creates a memory and an attachment to the athlete. But in NASCAR it’s the car number, and for the Pettys it will always be #43 and #45.

Both of these cars can be found on Glory Road in the NASCAR Hall of Fame today. I can’t put into words the emotion I feel seeing them together. I will always be proud to call a dad and a son. Thanks, @NASCARHall. pic.twitter.com/9fokcWlCeM

Kyle Petty’s photo and tweet took fans back in time. Lots of sad reactions came in response to the tweet.

You deserve to be proud! I wish you had done the Texas race so you and Adam could have raced together! It will happen one day!😇 https://t.co/3N40DUiXd5

After all these years, I’m still at a loss for words because we lost Adam Petty. Like many others, I looked forward to the Petty vs @DaleJr for years to come.
