Huskers Ready for Spring Season Opener
Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team will kick off the 2023 spring season this week by hosting West Michigan on Friday at 4 p.m. CT and Utah State on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT. at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. Matches will be played indoors and live stream stats will be available on huskers.com. Updates will also be posted @HuskerWTennis on Twitter.
Scouting in West Michigan
• The Broncos finished the 2021-22 season with a 12-12 overall record, including a 3-7 conference record.
• This year marks Ryan Tomlinson’s eighth season as head coach.
• The Broncos have a balanced roster with two freshmen, three juniors, two seniors and one graduate student.
Series history with Western Michigan
• This is the first time Nebraska will meet West Michigan on the tennis court.
Scouting in the State of Utah
• The Bluejays finished the 2021-22 season with a 6-14 overall record, including a 1-9 conference record.
• Utah State’s Sean McInerney is entering his 11th year as head coach.
• This year, Utah State has a roster of one freshman, one sophomore, two juniors, one senior, one redshirt-senior and two graduate students.
Series history with Utah State
• This is the first time Nebraska has faced Utah State on a tennis court.
Huskers welcome three transfers
• The women’s tennis team welcomes Anfisa Danilchenko, Raphaëlle Lacasse and Ana Carmen Zamburek.
• Danilchenko, a native of Moscow, Russia, spent last season in Minnesota and played in several singles and doubles positions. She finished the season with a 20-7 record in singles and a 17-8 record in doubles. During his junior career, Danilchenko achieved an ITF ranking of 205, a WTA ranking of 1180 and a UTR of 10.79. She won Grade 4 singles and doubles titles, while also being a finalist for the ITF Grade 1 and 3 doubles.
• Joining Danilchenko for the 2022-23 season is a transfer from the University of Kansas, Lacasse. The Montreal, Canada native has spent the past year with the Jayhawks and brings an impressive resume to Nebraska. Last season, she was a constant in the doubles and singles roster and helped the Jayhawks to a top-30 national ranking.
• Carmen Zamburek, from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, joins Nebraska after spending the last season at Baylor. In her freshman season at Baylor, Carmen Zamburek helped the Bears reach 11th on the season and a 15-8 regular season record. Zamburek saw action in both singles and doubles and was a major contributor to doubles No. 2 and No. 3.
