J.J. Watt invites Tom Brady to retired guys golf club, drinks on Tom | This is the Loop

On Wednesday morning, Tom Brady – six-time Super Bowl champion, the greatest to ever beat him, a grizzled 45-year-old man – announced his retirement from football after 23 seasons. Exactly a year ago he held a tearful press conference saying very similar things, but this time it’s for real. There was a humble resolve in his words and on his face as he addressed his family, friends and former teammates in a self-recorded video. For the first time since Brady stepped onto an NFL court in 2001, he looked like a man who was finally, really done.
Now the conversation shifts from where Tom Brady will play next season to what Tom Brady will play. If this invitation from recent retiree (and future first-round Hall of Famer) JJ Watt is any indication, the answer to that question will be golf. Lots and lots of golf.
Be a fly on that beverage cart. Although the pair have been trade adversaries – Watt le Wile E. Coyote to Brady’s Roadrunner – but they have already found an unlikely kinship in retirement. When Watt hung up his boots a few weeks ago, Brady was part of a touching tribute video that brought the legendary passer to tears. Now it looks like they’ll be hobbling together at the Country Club, telling old war stories with handcarts and pilsners at the ready. Whatever your opinion of the players on the pitch, we can’t think of a more fitting ending than this.
