Team adds three all-defensive guards to WNBA
The Washington Mystics announced today that they have signed three-time WNBA All-Defensive Guard Brittney Sykes to a three-year contract.
“Brittney was a primary target for us in free agency. She brings a skill set to our backcourt that perfectly complements our other perimeter players,” said general manager Mike Thibault. “His transition speed, his ability to get to the basket or find open teammates, will allow us to pick up our attacking pace and flow.”

Sykes (5-9, 154) joins the Mystics after earning WNBA All-Defensive First Team honors (2021) and All-Defensive Second Team honors (2020, 2022) the past three seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks. In the 2022 season, the six-year veteran recorded the most steals (65) and blocks (22) of her career, averaging 12.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists. in 32 games (24 starts). She led the WNBA in steals in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Sykes has played in 182 career games (115 starts) with Los Angeles (2020-2022) and Atlanta (2017-2019), averaging 11.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 25.9 minutes per game.
The Newark, NJ native was originally drafted seventh overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2017 from Syracuse University, earning All-Rookie honors.
