Corvette Fans Camp in Freezing Temps for Chance at E-Ray Reservation

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is a model of firsts for the beloved sports car nameplate. It’s the first Corvette to feature any kind of electric power, as well as the first to use all-wheel drive. Based on the situation that unfolded outside of MacMulkin Chevrolet in Nashua, New Hampshire, this could also be the first Corvette model to entice customers to camp out in front of local dealerships.

According to WMUR, potential Corvette E-Ray customers have been camping outside MacMulkin Chevrolet since Monday night in an effort to secure a reservation for the electrified sports car. The Corvette fan crowd is made up of people from across the country, including Tom Biondo of Staten Island, New York. Biondo is a current C8 Stingray owner, but he’s so interested in an E-Ray that he’s brought tents and airbeds to the dealership in preparation for orders going live Feb. 1. Biondo and others even brought heaters to help combat the freezing winter temperatures. .

“I’ve been in the automotive retail business for 20 years,” MacMulkin Chevrolet sales manager Tony Dillberg told WMUR. “I have never seen customers waiting outside at night from any vehicle.”

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray combines the Stingray’s 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine with a single electric motor mounted above the front axle. The total output of the powertrain is 655 hp, which allows the E-Ray to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. It’s the best performance of the Z06 for a slightly more affordable base price of $104,295 including destination.

If a Chevy dealership had radical fans camping outside their door for multiple winter nights, MacMulkin would rank high on this list. MacMulkin Chevrolet is consistently one of the top Corvette dealerships in the world when it comes to measuring sales volume, and as such will be among the first dealerships to get their hands on E-Ray allowances. Whether or not those antics helped someone get a car for themselves, GM should be pleased to see E-Ray customers so excited. Perhaps the future of the electrified Corvette is brighter than expected.
