Grand opening of miniature golf course scheduled for Feb. 11

Dale Janway | Mayor, City of Carlsbad

Almost everything is in place for the arrival of Carlsbad Miniature Golf, which will be located at Lake Carlsbad Golf Course, 901 Muscatel. The weather was a little uncooperative, which slowed down the progress a bit, because laying the greens requires a certain temperature.

We are now planning our grand opening for 2pm on February 11th. We hope you will come join us. We invited the Mayor’s Student Advisory Committee and the Torch Club of the Boys and Girls Club to be the first to play, after our inauguration. This course will be for everyone, but we know it will be greatly appreciated by our children.

Murrill Electric/Pecos Valley Construction is our prime contractor for this project. Valerie and Bill Murrill have done an outstanding job. Please check out the beautiful layout, if you haven’t already. Harris Mini Golf designed the course and manages the mini golf part (so the little details that make it a course). Constructors Inc. also played a very important role. We also appreciate the City of Carlsbad Public Works Department and our golf course employees who worked hard on this project. Finally, thank you to Carlsbad City Council for strongly supporting this project.

Carlsbad Miniature Golf will be owned and operated by the City of Carlsbad. Admission will be $5. You do not need to make a reservation to play – it will be first come, first served.

Hours of operation for the course will be the same as the rest of the golf course, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during winter hours and 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during summer hours. The exception will be on Tuesday, when the course opens at noon. You pay to enter inside the pro shop, and balls and clubs will be made available to you.

The course has 18 holes. The front nine are all wheelchair accessible, and participants who wish may instead complete the first 9 holes twice. Food and beverages will be available at the nearby Pro Shop. Outside food and drink will not be permitted except for water. Our plan is to allow groups of five.

At this time, we will not allow exclusive holiday bookings, as we want the course to be available to everyone. Ultimately, we plan to add a few more features to the course, such as caves or a canal, to give it a more “Carlsbad” feel.

As Carlsbad Water Park plans to open on Memorial Day weekend, we are excited for all the great activities in place at Carlsbad.
