‘Change is coming’ to the way golf is televised

Gone are the days when golf shows were used as background noise on a Sunday afternoon to drown out the stress of the work week ahead. While we may pay homage to old school methods, Max Homa ensures that the way we consume golf content changes – for the better.
In a recent interview on No Laying Up, Homa said that despite the apprehensions surrounding LIV Golf’s inaugural circuit, he enjoys the competition he brings to the PGA Tour, especially on the entertainment side. This forces the tour to step up their game.
Homa added that he was working with officials, including broadcasters, to generate more interest in the sport.
“These are just ideas, and we will soon put one into practice and see how it goes,” Homa said. “I’m not saying it’s the best idea in the world, but we’re trying and it’s cool that they let me help with it in a way like an extra voice in the idea because I can give the perspective of, ‘Hey, here’s why players won’t want to do this, let’s try this and they’ll come back with what we can do.
The past few months have been wild with the introduction of the LIV Golf Tour, but Homa sees it as more than just monetary gain.
“Yeah – money, whatever, but I want golf to be great for the fans because I’m a fan of the game and I want people to continue to look at golf both selfishly and as another game. ‘among themselves,” Homa said. “I’m glad people are speaking their minds…we see it with these nine designated events, like – change is coming. I think it’s all great for the consumer of the game.”
Homa is the perfect person to experiment with such factors. As a hugely approachable (and very Twitter-heavy) personality, his unique ways allow people to connect with what he does both on and off the course.
One of the entertaining factors Homa brought to the game recently was a mic moment when he put an AirPod in his left ear on the 13th hole during the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open on Friday.
We tried something new today! I hope you enjoyed. Just looking to add something to the viewing experience in the future. Appreciate the kind responses on this so far! https://t.co/1P8oV4ZkGh
