NFL coaching news that impacts the Eagles

The latest NFL coaching carousel news is impacting the Philadelphia Eagles. Let’s take a closer look.
JONATHAN GANNON STAY?
After the win over the San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles defensive coordinator said, “Philly is keeping me. Good, bad or indifferent, I stay here.
While that sounds pretty definitive, it’s debatable whether Gannon got caught up in the excitement of advancing to the Super Bowl and spoke prematurely.
Ultimately, it seems likely that Gannon will indeed return for a third season in Nick Sirianni’s team.
Gannon was interviewed for the Houston Texans job which instead went to former Eagles linebacker DeMeco Ryans. So it won’t stop there.
He was also ruled out from taking over the vacancy for the Denver Broncos. They traded for Sean Payton.
The Arizona Cardinals were recently rumored to be interested in Gannon. But they didn’t interview him in the Eagles’ first round of the playoffs, which means they can’t speak to him for the first time until after the Super Bowl. The Cards may not want to wait that long to sign their new HC.
The Eagles will be happy to have Gannon back given the success his unit has had this season.
THE LAST ON SHANE STEICHEN
Like Gannon, Steichen was also interviewed for the Texans job that Ryans got. He was kicked out there.
He was also left out of the Carolina Panthers opener which instead went to Frank Reich.
Steichen is still a candidate to replace Reich, however, as the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. The Indy brass are scheduled to travel to Philadelphia this week to meet with the Eagles offensive coordinator.
If Steichen leaves, Eagles quarterback coach Brian Johnson is a prime candidate for promotion to OC.
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE
Reich reportedly hired former Eagles assistant and longtime player Duce Staley, who left Philadelphia after Doug Pederson was fired to be the assistant head coach/running backs coach for the Detroit Lions.
Staley’s new title is still unclear, but reports indicate he could be in play to be the Panthers’ offensive coordinator.
There is also rumor that the Panthers are interviewing former Eagles consultant Jim Bob Cooter for their OC work.
Who the Panthers hire for OC is worth watching, as there is talk that Eagles passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo is potentially in the mix for the job.
