Devils’Andrew Brunette arrested for DUI on golf cart

Devils associate coach and former Panthers interim head coach Andrew Brunette was arrested on Wednesday for driving under the influence in Broward County, Fla., according to the county’s arrest registry.

According to an arrest report obtained by WPLG Local 10 News, the incident began outside a bar with an illegally parked golf cart belonging to Brunette. He told a sheriff’s deputy he was leaving, as the citation was being drafted, but “the deputy observed that Brunette’s speech was garbled and he was unsteady on his feet.”

The deputy then performed a traffic stop 17 minutes later when he saw Brunette driving away with the golf cart and exploding two stop signs.
“Deputies said that when they asked Brunette for her documents, he provided registration and insurance for the golf cart, but handed over his wife’s driver’s license and said it was because ‘he wasn’t driving,’ according to the WPLG Local 10 News report. .
The Devils said in a statement to the Post that they “are aware of the information” regarding Brunette and are “in the process of gathering additional information.”

Brunette, 49, became Florida’s interim coach last season after Joel Quenneville resigned following a meeting with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman over his involvement in the deal. According to WPLG Local 10 and Broward County court records, Brunette was involved in two other traffic violations while on staff at Florida as an assistant and head coach. . He was cited for going 27mph in a 15mph school zone in 2021. Brunette pleaded not guilty before a traffic court officer dismissed him three months later. Brunette was also cited and fined for going 58mph in a 40mph zone.
