NASCAR Insider Isn’t Thrilled About the Possibility of the “Oftentimes Boring” Indianapolis Oval Making a Comeback After the President Hinted at the Return

The Indianapolis Oval is an interesting track because it holds a lot of prestige as a track for NASCAR. But it seems people are talking about the rather poor racing there. Even journalists and writers doubt its relevance.

As the home of the iconic Indy500 – with over 110 years of historic glory – and as a NASCAR track, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is quite significant. But time and again he failed to deliver quality runs. Of course, that meant the oval was quickly scrapped for its road course alternative.

Speaking about the track on The Pit Reporters podcast, NASCAR reporter Jeff Gluck of The Athletic once said, “It’s kind of weird to be so passionate about the oval when the races weren’t always amazing and often boring.

“But to me, if you’re going to be in Indianapolis…the whole point of going there is the prestige of the oval, where the Indy 500 has been raced for all these years. That’s the magic. The road course, there’s nothing there that does anything for me.

Obviously he knows what he is talking about and there is good reasoning behind those words. But the Indianapolis Motor Speedway president is sure NASCAR will return to the oval.

Will the oval return to NASCAR soon?

The Indianapolis Oval will be on the NASCAR schedule sooner than expected – at least that’s what its president wants you to believe because nobody knows yet. The oval was removed for good enough reason.

CBS Sports reported that the track president commented on the comeback, saying, “Those conversations have happened. In fact, they keep happening.

“We never said we weren’t going back to the oval when we moved to the road course. We wanted to see how it worked. That’s why we started with Xfinity, then rolled it into Cup, and then wanted to give it some time to really see how it worked instead of a year.
