Rocky football reaches far and wide to secure initial 2023 signings

BILLINGS — Rocky Mountain College announced its initial slate of 2,023 football signings on Wednesday.

Rocky’s initial class includes 22 athletes in total, with nine signed on the offensive end, 10 to play defensive end and 3 as specialists. Seven of those athletes have won state championships, 19 were team captains, and 20 of them have earned all-conference, all-league, or all-state honors during their careers.

The geographic distribution of the initial class of Battlin’ Bears includes five from Montana, six from Arizona, four from Florida, three from Idaho, and two from California and Wyoming.

“I think the coaching staff has done a phenomenal job of finding the best guys for Rocky Mountain College,” coach Chris Stutzriem said in a news release. “The four young men who are currently enrolled and the 18 others who will join us in the fall are exceptional young men, great students and excellent football players.

“I’m confident we’ll be adding eight to 10 more players through the spring and maybe through the summer with some other guys from high school, as well as transfers.”

Rocky’s five rookies from Montana are receiver David Wohlfeil from Huntley Project, receiver Evan Rouane from Billings Senior, linebacker Zach Althoff from Bridger, defensive back Paxton McQuillan from Joliet and kicker/punter Eli Groshelle from Great Falls CMR.
