Jackson State football 2023 schedule includes South Carolina State opener

Jackson State football and first-year coach TC Taylor will have a tough schedule in 2023. The schedule was released Wednesday.

This schedule includes an opener against South Carolina State in a 2021 Cricket Celebration Bowl rematch, which South Carolina State won 31-10 to claim the de facto Black National Championship. The match will be played on August 28 at the MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Atlanta.

Jackson State went 12-1 last season, including an 8-0 conference mark to win the SWAC Championship.

Like last season, the Tigers will play their first four away games. After playing at South Carolina State, JSU will face Florida A&M on September 3 in the Orange Blossom Classic at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Jackson State will then travel to Southern to open the defense of its 2022 SWAC Championship on September 9 before heading to Texas State on September 16.

Jackson State will host Bethune-Cookman in the WC Gorden Classic at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on September 23.

After visiting Alabama A&M on Oct. 7, Jackson State will host Alabama State on Oct. 14 for the homecoming.

The rest of the schedule sees JSU visit Mississippi Valley State on October 21, Arkansas-Pine Bluff on October 28, and at home against Texas Southern on November 4. After an open date, Jackson State will host Alcorn State on Nov. 11. 18 to close out the regular season.

The SWAC Championship cricket will take place on December 2. The Cricket Celebration Bowl will take place on December 16.
