Boise State is on a roll

Boise State stayed hot with a 59-52 road win over the Air Force on Tuesday.

The victory gave Boise State an 18-5 record and the Broncos have won three straight. Boise State has won eight of its last nine games. During that nine-game streak, the Broncos’ only loss came to New Mexico on Jan. 20.

Since the loss to New Mexico, Boise State has thrown three in a row over Fresno State, Colorado State and the Air Force. The victory over the Air Force may have had a cost for the Broncos. Marcus Shaver and Naje Smith left the game with separate injuries.

The extent of the injuries was unknown, but it could impact Boise State’s season. If Boise State were to play without Smith and Shaver, it would be a blow to the offensive and defensive sides of the field.

Even with the injury against the Falcons, Shaver managed to register 12 points and five rebounds in 31 minutes. Max Rice had a game-high 22 points. Shaver was the only other double-digit Bronco.

Boise State has been one of the hottest teams in Mountain West and is in a position to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. If Shaver and Smith miss a lot of time over the past month, it could hurt Boise State’s NCAA Tournament hopes.

Boise State will look to have a healthy team against No. 22 San Diego State on Friday. This game could have serious conference implications for both teams.
