No. 18 Men’s Golf claims team title at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — The No. 18 Texas Men’s Golf Team shot a 290 2-over-par on Wednesday to earn a wire-to-wire win at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club. The Longhorns posted a three-round total of 14 under par 850 (270-290-290) to win by 13 strokes over runner-up and tournament host No. 15 Pepperdine at 1 under par 863 (290-288-285 ), while No. 5 Arizona State was third at 4 on par 868 (275-304-289).
In individual competition, rookie Keaton Vo posted a 2-under 70 on Wednesday to place second with a total of 54 holes of 8 under par 208 (67-71-70). Vo finished just one stroke behind tournament medalist Michael Brennan of Wake Forest at 9-under 207 (70-68-69).
Freshman Jacob Sosa, who posted an 18-hole record score of 11-under par-61 in Monday’s opening round, notched a 2-over-par-74 on Wednesday to finish in third place at 7-under. normal 209 (61 -74-74). Freshman Christiaan Maas also had an impressive performance with a tie for fifth at 4 under 212 (68-70-74).
The 12-team Southwestern Invitational field included five ranked teams in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll (November 18). It was the first tag team title of the 2022-23 season for the Longhorns.
Texas returns to the course February 8-10 (Wednesday-Friday) when it competes in the Amer Ari Invitational in Kamuela, Hawaii.

Freshman Keaton Vo carded a 2-under 70 to finish as the individual finalist at 8-under 208 (67-71-70). Second place marked a better collegiate finish for Vo. He was previously tied for fourth in the 18-hole stroke play at the East Lake Cup (October 24), and his previous best result over 54 holes was a tie for 29th at the Stephens Cup ( October 10-11). . Freshman Christiaan Maas recorded a 74 of 2 over par on his final lap to tie for fifth place at 4 under par of 212 (68-70-74). It is Maas’ second top-five effort of the year, having previously tied for third at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational (October 3-4). Maas recorded four birdies in Wednesday’s round. Graduate Brian Stark, making his debut in a Longhorn uniform after transferring at the start of the spring semester, posted a 74-2 on par Wednesday to rank 28th at 7 on par 223 (74-75- 74) . He collected three birdies on his last trick. Senior Travis Vick hit an even par 72 on his final lap. After starting the round 4-over through his first two holes, Vick rallied to record four birdies and an eagle (par-five No. 15) against a bogey over his final 16 holes on Wednesday.
