Jackson State announces 2023 football schedule

The Jackson State Tigers have announced their 2023 football schedule, which includes nine games against conference opponents.

Jackson State opens its 2023 schedule in Week Zero on Saturday, August 26 against South Carolina State in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. The game will be played at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The following week, on Sunday, September 3, Jackson State will take on Florida A&M in the Orange Blossom Classic at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The game also marks the start of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play for JSU.

Next, Jackson State will travel to face fellow SWAC member Southern on Sept. 9, but the game will be a non-conference game and will not count in conference standings. The Tigers will wrap up their non-conference action the following week, Sept. 16, when they face Texas State.

The rest of Jackson State’s 2023 schedule is made up entirely of SWAC competitions. SWAC haters are scheduled to visit Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Miss. This season includes Bethune-Cookman on September 23, Alabama State on October 14 (Homecoming), Texas Southern on November 4 and Alcorn State on November 18.

The remaining SWAC road contests for Jackson State include Mississippi Valley State on October 21 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on October 28. The Tigers will also face Alabama A&M on October 7 in the Gulf Coast Challenge at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

Jackson State finished the 2022 season 12-1 overall and 8-0 in SWAC action. It was the last season under head coach Deion Sanders, who left to take charge of the Colorado Buffaloes program. TC Taylor, who coached wide receivers in 2023, will lead JSU in 2023.
