Southern releases 2023 football schedule

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) — Southern has released its 2023 football schedule as head coach Eric Dooley prepares for his second season in charge of the Jaguars.

Information from Southern Athletics:

The Southern University football team under 2nd-year head coach Eric Dooley announced its 2023 football schedule on Wednesday during National Signing Day.

The 11-game schedule includes six home games played inside AW Mumford Stadium, starting with the Pete Richardson Classic on Sept. 9 against Jackson State and four road games.

SU will open the season by traveling to Alabama State (September 2) for a non-conference game, before returning to the friendly confines of AW Mumford Stadium for another non-conference home game with Jackson State (September 9 ).

The Jaguars will open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play against Alabama A&M (September 16). After an early week off, they will travel to Arkansas Pine-Bluff (September 30). The Jaguars next host Florida A&M (October 7) before hosting Lincoln University (CA) (October 14) for the annual homecoming celebration.

Southern will be on the road as they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. against Bethune-Cookman (Oct. 21) and then return home to face Texas Southern (Oct. 28). The Jaguars next take on Alcorn State (November 4) before heading home for senior day at Mumford Stadium as they host Prairie View A&M on (November 11).

The 50th Bayou Classic is scheduled for November 25 as the Jaguars take on Grambling State at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, LA.
