Maple Leafs happy to be on Pendrith’s golf bag as Canadian partners with Arnett

TORONTO — Will Arnett and Taylor Pendrith love the Toronto Maple Leafs.

And the Maple Leafs? They love them right away.

Pendrith, a PGA Tour player from Richmond Hill, Ont., on Wednesday tossed a new golf bag emblazoned with the Maple Leafs logo ahead of the first round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

“Arrested Development” and “BoJack Horseman” actor Will Arnett — who is also a known supporter of his hometown team — will partner Pendrith for Thursday’s first round.

“It’s great. It shows how important the Leafs brand is across Canada, really,” Toronto center Alex Kerfoot said. “There are a few of us on the team who follow golf quite closely.

“We saw (Pendrith) in the Presidents Cup, follow his game, know what a good player he is, so it’s cool of him to put it on his bag.”

Defenseman Rasmus Sandin was also thrilled that Pendrith and Arnett would represent the Maple Leafs at one of the most well-known golf courses in the United States. Sandin said his father, Patric, instilled in him a love of golf from an early age and he still plays a little.

” It’s awesome. I didn’t know that, but it’s amazing,” Sandin said before the Maple Leafs game against the Boston Bruins. “There are a lot of different celebrities keeping tabs on us, so it’s really fun that (Pendrith) has a personalized bag with the design on it.”

Defender Mark Giordano also appreciated the show of support. He said while with the Flames he played a round with former PGA Tour golfer Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., who is a big Calgary fan.

“I think showing support in all sports is pretty cool and we watch that, of course,” Giordano said.
