“Best team in the league”

The Carolina Hurricanes won 5-1 against the Buffalo Sabers on Wednesday night, extending their unbeaten streak to seven games. Right winger Stefan Noesen scored one and assisted another for the visitors, while Alex Tuch netted the home side’s only goal.
Here’s how NHL Twitter reacted to Carolina’s recent win:

Probably the strongest signs the @Canes are doing well are that they’ve dominated in two environments where they’ve had a history of crumpling: 5 p.m. against the Bruins and national broadcast. Enjoy the break, guys. The top 2 teams in the NHL that will participate in the All-Star Break will be the Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes.
The top 2 teams in the NHL that will participate in the All-Star Break will be the Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina Hurricanes are on a seven-game winning streak
The Canes have now won seven straight and enter the All-Star Break with first place in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division, with a 34-9-8 record.
Today’s game was the second meeting between the two teams. The Hurricanes won the previous game with a score of 5-3.
The best player of tonight’s game was Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta, who made 29 saves with 0.967 SV%. In the 17 games Raanta has started this season, the Hurricanes have won 12 with 0.897 SV%.
The Canes’ goals came from Sebastian Aho, Stefan Noesen, Brent Burns, Derek Stepan and Jordan Martinook. Aho scored the Canes’ first goal and is in terrific form, having scored at least one goal in six straight games.
Ukko-Pekka Luukonen made 29 saves for the Sabers and had an SV % of 0.879 in that game. The Sabers suffered a blow when leading scorer Tage Thompson left the game with an upper body injury. Thompson has 34 goals and 68 points in 50 games.
The injury also jeopardizes his participation in the NHL All-Star Game. Thompson is scheduled to play in the 2023 NHL All-Star Game this weekend, but the injury has made his status questionable.
The Buffalo Sabers are now fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 24-20-4 record.
