NFL places Eagles OL Josh Sills on Commissioner Exempt List after indictment on charges of rape, kidnapping

The NFL placed Eagles reserve offensive lineman Josh Sills on the list of exempt commissioners after Sills was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday on charges of rape and kidnapping following a 2019 incident in Ohio. .

“Sills cannot participate in practices and games or travel with the team while on the list of exempt commissioners,” the league said in a statement. “The matter will be reviewed under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.”

Sills allegedly engaged in non-consensual sexual activity and held a victim against her will in December 2019, according to an indictment issued Wednesday by a jury in the Common Pleas Court in Guernsey County, Ohio.

Sills made one appearance this season for Philadelphia, playing four special teams snaps in a Week 5 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Sills was inactive for the Eagles’ two playoff games.

“The organization is aware of the court case involving Josh Sills,” the Eagles said in a statement Wednesday. “We have been in communication with the league office and are gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”

The 25-year-old is due in court on February 16, four days after the Eagles are scheduled to play Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona.

Sills, a native of Sarahsville, Ohio, played college football at West Virginia and Oklahoma State before entering the NFL in 2022 as an undrafted free agent.
