Latest college basketball upset breaks insane record

The 2022-23 college basketball season has been a year where top-ranked teams have often been on upset alert. This was once again the case for the No. 2-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, who faced a pesky Florida Gators team that gave them all kinds of fits.

The Volunteers had an extremely tough time on the road in Gainesville, shooting just 27% from the field and 20% on three-point attempts.

Florida forward Colin Castleton also gave them trouble all night, scoring 20 points and propelling the Gators to a huge upset 67-54 win over Tennessee.

It was a massive victory for Florida, which finds itself with work to do if it hopes to potentially make the NCAA Tournament in March.

The #Gators still have a lot of work to do, but tonight’s win sets the stage for a possible NCAA Tournament run.

And personally, I really want to see Colin Castleton in an NCAA tournament.

Meanwhile, it was a hugely disappointing effort for Tennessee, who were limited to a season-low 54 points, well below their 74.4 ppg average.

This latest upset makes college basketball a worrying story for top-ranked teams. According to ESPN Stats & Info, Tennessee’s loss to Florida marks the tenth time an AP top-2 ranked team has lost this season, which is the longest in AP Poll history.

No. 2 Tennessee lost to Florida, becoming the 10th different AP Top-2 school to lose this season.

This record shows just how competitive this college basketball season has been for fans, which certainly creates an entertaining and intriguing product for fans back home.

Aside from the Purdue Boilermakers with just one loss this season, no team has really separated itself from the pack to make it clear that they are the truly best team in the country.

Parity in college basketball this season should make for a very interesting NCAA Tournament in March, unless other teams come out of the pack.
