There were no games on Tuesday or Wednesday due to the storm, but the action was intense last Friday.

Round Rock’s Kara Harris had a memorable first half as she scored five goals in the first 30 minutes of the Dragons’ 10-0 win over Manor in the 25-6A district. Holly Mayo added two goals while Alexis Montgomery, Lexi Duarte and Vivi Duarte added one each. Round Rock scored nine of their 10 goals in the first 29 minutes.

In other district games, Vandegrift beat Stony Point 3-1 with goals from Kaitlyn Schmitt, Aly Arsenault and Brookelyn Jordan. Westwood beat Vista Ridge 4-1 as rookie Mia Wiele scored and assisted three goals. Outstanding Cedar Ridge scorer Emma Torres scored the only goal of the game as the Raiders shut out Stony Point 1-0. Earlier, Vandegrift beat McNeil 2-0 thanks to goals from Brit Collins and Sly Arsenault and assists from Libby Brooker and Kate Perrey.

In 26-6A, Johnson turned a 1-0 halftime lead into a 3-1 win over Bowie while Lake Travis and Anderson had a terrific game with the Cavaliers winning 2-1 after the teams were tied 1-1 at halftime. Cavaliers midfielder Flora Glantz has scored twice, giving her eight goals and four assists this season, while compatriot Breckyn Ferrell has both assists, giving her five for the season. Austin High beat Akins 9-1 and Dripping Springs beat Westlake 4-1 as Ellie Hodsden scored twice. It was the Tigers’ sixth straight win.

Leander explodes for seven goals in the second half

In the Class 5A competition, Georgetown played excellent defense and managed four goals to beat Pflugerville. Addie Russu scored two goals while Finely Newell and Maeve Connerty each added a goal for the Eagles. Mycah Morrow, Ambrey Heath Goal and Newell each had assists. Connally had three goals and two assists from Janes Datashvilli as the Cougars beat Manor 8-1. Vicky Torrez also scored three goals with an assist for Connally. Rouse beat Liberty Hill 1-0 and Hendrickson beat Bastrop 6-2. Hendrickson rookie Ayslee Barreto scored two goals while Kylie Marchand, Amanda Thai, Nat Villanueva Gomez and Kaylee McKinley each added solo goals for the Hawks.

Leander beat Hays 7-0 in an interesting game which saw the teams in a scoreless tie at half-time. The news of the evening was the Lions attack in the second half. Alicia Aguinaga opened the scoring from the penalty spot. Kensley Seaman Smith found the back of the net three minutes later thanks to a pass from Kylie Quinn. The third goal was an accurate goal from Teagan Wahle, the fourth was from Kylie Jamar, the fifth goal was an own goal from Kylie Jamar’s cross, and the last two goals were scored by Alyse Kavanaugh and assisted by Jamar. Cedar Park also beat Lehman 7-0 as the Timberwolves received goals from Meredith Koltz, Maddie Adams, Frances Tran, Abbie Hall, Lily Rangel, Summer Schultze and Brooke Pack.

Red-hot Burnet keep on rolling

St. Michael’s shut out Hyde Park 2-0 as Laney Kalsu exploded in a long-range goal and Landyn Loeffler added a goal as the Crusaders improved to 12-2-2. Red-hot Burnet beat Florence 8-0 behind a double hat-trick from Amelia Griffith, who netted three goals and three assists. Burnet’s defensive line and solid goalie preserved the state-ranked Bulldogs’ shutout victory. Giddings beat Manor New Tech 10-0 as Makinley Kylberg and Abby Iselt had three-goal hat-tricks.

Amelia Griffith, junior, Burnet: Sophomore district MVP Griffith had an incredible double hat trick with three goals and three assists last Friday as the Bulldogs beat Florence 8-0. A highly skilled striker, she has great shooting skills and a deft passing touch. junior scored three goals and added three assists.

Who won the Statesman Team of the Week?

Wimberley: The Texans have a new coach in Eric Nichols and are No. 2 in the state and fought to a 2-2 draw with Class 5A-ranked Alamo Heights. Wimberley outscored the teams 56-10. Wimberley scored four first-half goals to defeat Canyon Lake 4-1 last Friday.
