US is world’s top destination for international soccer tournaments

For more than two decades, we have seen many European clubs and foreign national teams travel to the United States to participate in international football competitions.

In 14 of its 16 iterations, CONCACAF has held its Gold Cup tournament in the United States. Even then, it should not be forgotten that the United States hosted the 1994 World Cup and the 2016 Copa América Centenario. The latter marked 100 years of the tournament.

But now, in the coming summers, the United States of America has an abundance of riches where the country hosts several top football competitions.

The United States hosts major football competitions

How many of our summers will be filled with international football tournaments over the next half-decade? Consider the following timeline:

It’s clear that the United States is the world’s premier destination for many of the best and biggest tournaments.

FIFA and the other organizing bodies have recognized the huge opportunities to generate revenue here in the United States. Interest in football continues to grow and the sport will undoubtedly reach a crescendo in 2026.

Games with a purpose

NFL stadiums will be used in some of our cities including Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey, etc.

The United States will be the summer football destination for at least three CONCACAF Gold Cups. Beyond that, however, the United States have the potential to face tougher opposition if they qualify for the 2024 Copa América, as well as co-host the 2026 World Cup.

Stepping out of the comfort zone of only playing CONCACAF teams is imperative for the USA men’s team. This will also help to improve the level of quality throughout the CONCACAF region.
