Houston has had another incredible regular season and is eyeing another American Athletic Conference championship. Although they suffered a loss to Temple a few weeks ago, the Cougars are unquestionably one of the best teams in the country, especially the way they have beaten teams in conference play. After last Saturday’s victory over Cincinnati, Houston has won back-to-back games, including winning 11 of its last 12 games. They lead Temple by half a game in the AAC, which the Cougars face next Sunday. Marcus Sasser was at the forefront of Houston’s offense, leading the team with an average of 16.2 points per game.
Wichita State knows they are underdogs arriving Thursday night and hoping to savor the underdog role. After their win over Carolina East, the Shockers are 4-5 in AACtion, which puts them tied for sixth in the standings, four games behind Houston. The team has had its ups and downs throughout the season, which is why it hovered around the .500 mark in 21 games. Wichita State relied on strong defense to stay in games, which is why in losses to Kansas State and Oklahoma State, the Shockers only lost 10 points or less.
Although Wichita State is 18-17 against Houston all-time, the Cougars have won back-to-back meetings, including winning seven of the last eight against the Shockers.
