Women’s Tennis Hosts LIU for Saturday Match

PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team is set to open the second month of 2023 with a noon matchup against Long Island University at the Hecht Tennis Center on Saturday, February 4.

Penn and LIU meet for the first time in the history of the two programs.
Penn capped January with a 4-3 win over Delaware on Tuesday at home. The Blue Hens opened the duel by taking the doubles point with a doubles win at No. 1 and 2. The teams battle it out in singles matches. Maya Urata and Eileen Wang gave Penn a 3-2 lead with straight-set wins apiece. After a Delaware singles victory at No. 6, Sabine Rutlauka won the tiebreaker in the second set to clinch Penn’s double win.
LIU opened their season with a pair of wins over the past five days. The Sharks’ season started with a 6-1 win at Siena and on Wednesday they beat Hofstra, 7-0. In the game against Siena, the Sharks got all six match points in singles. LIU won all six singles matches against Hofstra, including winning the final singles match in a third-set tiebreaker.
