Galaxy S23 debuts Samsung’s One UI 5.1; check out the new features

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series is official with a new version of One UI. The latest Galaxy flagships launch One UI 5.1 based on Android 13, a small but significant update to One UI 5.0 that most other Galaxy smartphones currently use. It brings several new features and improvements. Here’s a quick look at the best of One UI 5.1.
One UI 5.1 new features
The Galaxy S23 line got a substantial camera upgrade this year. And the upgrades aren’t just limited to hardware and behind-the-scenes processing and algorithms. You will also find changes in the stock camera app. Applying color effects to your selfies is now easier than ever. Samsung also added a shortcut for Expert RAW. You can quickly switch to the pro-grade camera app without leaving the stock camera app.
The Gallery app adds a shared family album that makes it easy to share photos with your family. You can add up to six family members to a shared album, and each of them will have 5 GB of storage space to share photos and videos. You can also remaster downloaded GIFs for better resolution and clarity. Say goodbye to those pixelated, blurry GIFs that take away the fun. Samsung’s AR Zone and AR Emoji also get functional improvements.
If you are one of those who take a lot of screenshots and screen recordings for personal or professional use, One UI 5.1 will allow you to create custom folders for these files. Speaking of business use, you can now collaborate on Samsung Notes while video calling on Google Meet. One UI 5.1 also brings improved connectivity to the Galaxy ecosystem. You can copy and paste text, images and more to your connected Galaxy smartphones and laptops.
Bixby Text Call, which allows you to transcribe audio calls into text, should be available in English with One UI 5.1. Samsung’s modes and routines have also become smarter. You can now automate more tasks than before. The new One UI version also lets you set multiple custom wallpapers that automatically change based on your activity. Last but not least, One UI 5.1 brings improvements to Samsung DeX, home screen widgets, setup wizard, settings, and more.
Samsung will update older Galaxy devices to the new One UI version
One UI 5.1 will not remain exclusive to the Galaxy S23 series for long. Samsung will update older Galaxy flagships to the new One UI version in the coming weeks. All flagship models launched since the Galaxy S20 series in 2020 will receive the update, although some features may not be available on certain models. Some mid-range Galaxy A phones may also get a few One UI 5.1 features. We will let you know when the company begins the rollout.
