USF Men’s Tennis Goes Out of State to Face MTSU and Memphis

TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2023) – After winning the consolation game on ITA Kickoff Weekend, USF will travel to Tennessee to face Middle Tennessee State and Memphis on Friday and Saturday.

After losing their game to No. 16 Florida, South Florida was able to come back and dominate SMU.

Elijah Cham on court five was the difference maker in the game against the Mustangs. After dropping his first set, the Australian was able to fly past his next two and take the win for the team.

Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders
The Blue Raiders are 3-2 this season. Their biggest achievement comes in defeating No. 19 Duke at ITA’s launch weekend on Jan. 27.

MTSU has two ranked players. No. 60 Oskar Bostrom Poulsen and No. 109 Francisco Rocha. Together, the pair rank 26th in doubles.

South Florida leads MTSU 5-4 overall. The last meeting between the two was on March 10, 2022, when the Bulls abandoned the game, 3-4.

Memphis Tigers
Memphis enters the weekend 1-2. Like MTSU, the Tigers have two ranked singles players. #39 Pablo Alemany and #114 David Stevenson. Although the team dropped their match against Duke, Alemany was able to score a run against No. 4 Garret Johns in singles action.

In addition to singles rankings, Memphis has two ranked doubles teams. Harry Rock and Stevenson are ranked No. 35. Pablo Alemany and Stevenson are ranked No. 46.

The Verts et Or had successful outings against the Tigres with an overall record of 10-3. The Bulls have won nine of the last ten games.
