Anne Moore Resigns as Laramie Plainsmen Soccer Head Coach

Laramie High School boys’ head football coach Anne Moore has stepped down ahead of the 2023 high school season.

LHS athletic director Ron Wagner announced his resignation Thursday. This is just over four weeks before the start of training for the new season, Monday March 6, 2023.

The following is a statement from Laramie High School that got Coach Moore to reflect on his time as head coach:

“The first two seasons of boys’ football were the most difficult because we had a very young squad in 2018/19, and in 2019/20 we were only able to play a week of football before the season was over. canceled due to COVID.

The 2020/2021 season was where the team really came together for a fourth-place finish in the conference. The team went on to win the state consolation championship game for a fifth-place finish in the state tournament.

The 2021/22 team won a conference regular-season championship, was a runner-up in the conference tournament losing in the final 1-0, and won a consolation championship in the state tournament by beating Central in the an OT penalty shootout. We had six All-Conference players and four first-team All-State players in the 2021/22 season. Landon Whisenant and Talon Luckie went on to play at the college level.

In our conference, it’s tough to win consistently at home and on the road, so I think I’m most proud of our team’s 2021/22 regular season championship with an 11-1 record. We had a tough competition with multiple overtime wins, so the regular season championship showed full work where winning didn’t just come down to a few games in conference or state tournaments.

I’m excited about the 2022/23 squad because they’ve worked hard in the offseason playing in leagues, at Olympic development events, indoor tournaments and have players showing up regularly for training in drop-in room. We have graduated seven senior starters after the 2021/22 season, but we have a young group of returning players ready to compete. I would like to thank Ron Wagner for entrusting me with the boys football team for the past four years and especially my assistant coaches: Paul Gonzales, Wil Atencio, Michael Zuniga and Isaiah Jackson for all the time they have dedicated to helping our players. to reach their full potential. It was so much fun watching you transition from former players into the coaching world as leaders and mentors. I’m sad to be stepping down as head coach this spring, but I plan to support the team from the stands as the #1 fan!”
