John Daly Once Revealed How He Helped His Then Eight-Year-Old Son To Cope Despite Missing ‘84 Days in Kindergarten’

In the world of golf, there is perhaps hardly any golfer with more dramatic stories off the course than John Daly. The two-time Major winner has encountered more obstacles in his personal life than in his golf career. However, when it comes to being a good dad, like his golf records, he happens to be one of the best. We look back at when Daly had a huge impact on his son.

John Daly II was born in 2003, to the legendary golfer and his wife at the time Sherrie Miller. Over the years, Daly and Miller’s marriage only got worse and eventually led to their divorce in 2010.

Sherrie Miller has won custody of junior Daly, with the PGA Tour star seeking visitation rights in different instances. Nevertheless, after being arrested for drug addiction, Miller was arrested in 2010, giving Daly custody of their son.

John Daly changes his son’s life in one year

After gaining custody of the 7-year-old, Daly drastically changed his son’s lifestyle. A year later, the two-time Major winner spoke to Independent UK and shared his experience of fatherhood. John Daly explained that he rarely met his son before he was taken into custody.

However, this result has changed since the court’s decision. “When I first got custody before last Christmas, Little John could barely write or read,” Daly revealed in the 2011 interview. The golfer blamed his ex-wife for the lack of education of her then eight-year-old son.

However, thanks to John Daly, everything changed for the young boy. He said: “In just one year, I took him through two levels. He was so late because his mother never made him go to school. Big John then shared the absurd number of days Daly II attended school.

How many days did Daly II miss kindergarten?

While sharing his frustration with his child’s mother, The Wild Thing discussed the number of days his son missed school in kindergarten. “He missed 84 days of kindergarten, so they held him back,” Daly said.

He further added, “And then he had already missed 25 days of freshman. I had to teach him every day – and I got him through his first two years in one year. It’s because I gave structure to Little John. He knows he has to do it”. Indeed, this could well be a turning point in the life of Daly II.

Now 19, under the guidance of his father, a two-time Major winner, little John aspires to become a professional golfer. He currently plays for the Arkansas Razorbacks college golf team and impressed the golfing world with his superb winning performance alongside his father at the 2021 PNC Championship. Still a long way ahead of him, he might as well have a career illustrates very similar to his legendary father.
